Orthophosphate in the sample to be tested
reacts with ammonium molybdate in an acidic medium, in the presence of antimony
salts, to produce Molybdophosphate heteropoly acid which are immediately
reduced by ascorbic acid to produce a blue color complex. The complex has
maximum absorption at a specific wavelength, and the content of orthophosphate
in the sample to be tested is calculated by photoelectric colorimetry.
